Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s) – Have a question about scholarships? Review our Frequently Asked Questions below for more information.

What is a scholarship?

A scholarship is a financial award that allows students to further their education. Unlike loans, it is not required to be repaid.

Is Bright Futures handled through the financial aid office?

Yes, click here to visit the Polk State Financial Aid department.

Are the Polk State College Foundation Scholarships federally funded?

No. Polk State College Foundation scholarships are privately funded and our donors create the criteria.

What types of Foundation scholarships are available?

A variety of Foundation scholarships are available, including Nursing, first generation, merit (3.5 GPA), teaching, STEM, etc.

How do I know which Foundation scholarships to apply for?

During the Foundation scholarship application process, students are asked a series of questions. Students must answer all of the questions in order to be matched with the appropriate scholarship. Incomplete applications could impact your eligibility and consideration for Foundation scholarships.

Are the Foundation Scholarships renewable?

All Foundation scholarships are for one academic year. However, students may apply for a scholarship during February 1 – February 28 and June 20 – July 10 each year.

Is my scholarship automatically applied, once I receive notification of my award?

No. Recipients must accept, and complete a thank you letter once notification is sent via-email. Students may also log in to the application to check on the award status. If awarded, students must complete the activation process between June 1 – June 30 of year.

You must complete the activation process (accepting your scholarship and writing the thank you letter) on or before June 30 of the current year; otherwise, the scholarship will be forfeited. Award certificates will be available for high school award ceremonies in May of the current year.

Foundation scholarship award information will be made available June 1 of the current year. To check your award status, log into the scholarship application starting on June 1, but no later than June 30, using your password and username to confirm whether or not a scholarship has been awarded to you.

Payment Due Date Extended

Your tuition payment due date is viewable in Passport, and may be extended to allow the Foundation enough time to enter your scholarship. Please note, if your tuition payment due date is extended, your classes will not be dropped. However, if your scholarship hasn’t been entered ON your new payment due date, please contact Cindy Baker.
