May 2010 Check Presentation

Monday, May 24, 2010

When Polk State College students face emergencies that force them to choose between working and attending school, threatening to shatter their dreams of a higher education, it is generous philanthropists like Joe and Lisa Jensen of Winter Haven who provide a desperately-needed lifeline. With their creation in September 2009 of the Joe and Lisa Jensen Endowment to benefit Polk State College students in emergency situations, they have enabled such students to remain enrolled at the College and fulfill their potential. Since the scholarship’s inception, they have generously donated $17,000 to the Polk State College Foundation, and their altruism was recognized on Monday, May 24, 2010 in a check presentation ceremony on the Winter Haven campus. Mark Turner, Esquire, Straughn & Turner, PA and Immediate Past Chair of the Polk State College Foundation Board of Directors thankfully presented the Jensens’ gift to the Polk State College District Board of Trustees. “It’s the energy of you, Dr. Holden, and this school that inspired us to make this gesture. We hope to make a difference in the community. It means so much for us to help. Polk State College is near and dear to our hearts,” said Mr. Jensen.
